Comparison of Quantitative Traits in Latitudinal Populations of Drosophila Kikkawai: Wild Vs Lab Populations
نویسنده
چکیده
The quantitative characters in Drosophila such as body size or fecundity, are very sensitive to environmental changes e.g. temperature or larval nutrition under laboratory conditions. In nature, the same situation is found where changes in annual temperature or humidity affect the type of flora as well as the size of Drosophila, fauna. In the present studies, we found that latitudinal clines exist in natural populations of Drosophila kikkawai for the quantitative traits; thorax length and wing length and wing/thorax ratio i.e the values of wing length, and thorax length and wing to thorax ratio are smaller for southern populations while higher for northern populations in both wild caught and laboratory reared populations.

Wild grapevine, Vitis vinifera subsp. sylvestris is considered as a rare species in Europe and Iran and possesses restricted distribution due to threatening factors. Natural populations of wild grapevine in the north of Iran were evaluated in three wild areas of coastal and plains areas of Miankaleh, submontane areas of Amol and the forest patches of Kojour and a cultivated sample of crop grape...

Field-collected Drosophila melanogaster from 19 populations in Eastern Australia were measured for body size traits, and the measurements were compared with similar ones on flies from the same populations reared under standard laboratory conditions. Wild caught flies were smaller, and latitudinal trends in size were greater. Reduced size was caused by fewer cells in the wing, and the steeper cl...

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between microsatellite markers and some agronomic and morphological traits in wild einkorn wheat populations collected from western parts of Iran. Plant materials included 163 wild einkorn wheat accessions selected from 664 samples collected from 34 regions in of Ilam, Kermanshah and Kurdistan provinces. Seeds of selected accessions wer...
متن کاملNatural Genetic Variation and Candidate Genes for Morphological Traits in Drosophila melanogaster
Body size is a complex character associated to several fitness related traits that vary within and between species as a consequence of environmental and genetic factors. Latitudinal and altitudinal clines for different morphological traits have been described in several species of Drosophila and previous work identified genomic regions associated with such variation in D. melanogaster. However,...

There is substantial diversity in Achillea biebersteinii plants in Iran. It has considerable different biological activities including antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, insecticidal, herbicidal and wound healing. Research improvement for medicinal plants depends on the available genetic diversity. The assessment of genetic variability could increase the information for breeding programs. ...
